CD31 also designated as PECAM-1 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule 1), is a transmembrane glycoprotein belongs to immunoglobulin superfamily, which is key factor for adhesion and accumulation of platelets. It is present on the surface of platelets, monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils and is a constituent of the endothelial intercellular junction.CD31 is generally regarded to be the most sensitive and specific endothelial marker in paraffin sections, and is one of the best markers for benign and malignant vascular tumors.
